New Agreement with Canal & River Trust
New Agreement with Canal & River Trust
In 2024, Whitchurch Waterway Trust (WWT) signed a new connection agreement with Canal & River Trust (CRT) which requires WWT to maintain a minimum of 4 x 70ft moorings for visitors. Under the agreement, WWT is able to decide the use of all other mooring spaces on the Whitchurch Arm and to set its own charging policy. The money raised from mooring income is used to pay for repairs and dredging. For example: a section of the south towpath was recently replaced and new drainage added at a cost of £8,000.
Charging Policy
Moorings of up to 48hrs – Free
Extra nights (discretionary) – Suggested donation of £7 per day via JustGiving page.
Moorings of 1 to 4 weeks – £35 per week, irrespective of boat length (calculated on a whole number of weeks)
All moorings of 1 month or over – £30 per foot per annum (calculated on a whole number of months)
12 months paid in advance – 10% discount
Charges will be reviewed annually in the period January – March with any changes coming into effect from 1st April that same year.
Boat owners booking a stay of 1 month or over are required to complete a mooring booking application form. To access the form please click on the link Moorings Application Form.
Signage
New signage has been installed to indicate the different mooring areas and the restrictions that apply in each case. Permanent moorings in the Red Zone will include a sign for the boat in question to allow you to leave and return to the mooring you have paid for. We have taken the opportunity to update all other signage, including the large sign at the entrance to the Whitchurch Arm. Scroll down to ee our Moorings and Signage Plan.
Festival Moorings
Whitchurch Waterway Trust requires the use of the Arm for the annual festival which takes place on the weekend following August bank holiday. There will be no visitor moorings available for one week around the time of the festival. Any short/ medium-term moorings, plus any permanent moorings on the towpath side will be required to breast up or relocate to the moorings either side of the Arm on the Llangollen Canal as directed by the Festival Organiser.
Example
A 40ft narrowboat enters the Arm and moors in the free moorings section. They are enjoying their time in Whitchurch so much they decide to stay for another 2 weeks at £35 per week = £70. They also enquire about the cost of medium to long term moorings, which would be £100.00 per month or £1200 per annum. The following year they come back for a permanent mooring, paying 12 months in advance at a cost of £1080, with the 10% discount. They chose a mooring position on the towpath side and a couple of days before the festival they relocate to a mooring outside the arm, returning one week later.
