An AGM and EGM was held in 2010 where different options for the extending the Whitchurch Canal Arm further towards the town centre were presented and voted on.

AGM Minutes 2010

The decision was made to go ahead with the Canal basin rather than the other alternatives and this was the option for which Planning Permission was later obtained.

The Presentation about the Options.

Reason for the change in policy included the lower construction and maintenance costs and the anticipated difficulties and environmental issues of a connection of the canal with Staggs Brook.

(The plan that had been pursued for several years had involved cerating lakes in the Country Park, building locks or an inclined plane and extending the canal towards the town along the track of Staggs Brook.)
